Welcome Croatia - Accession treaty signed

EU and Croatian leaders have signed Croatia's EU Accession Treaty. Subject to the Treaty's ratification by all Member States and Croatia, the country will become the 28th Member State of the European Union on 1 July 2013.

The signature of the Accession Treaty with Croatia marks an important moment for
European integration. Pending the successful conclusion of ratification procedures, the
European Council looks forward to welcoming Croatia as a new member as of 1 July 2013.
Croatia will now participate in the proceedings of the European Council, the Council and its
preparatory bodies as active observer.

The financing and implementation of Natura 2000 in Croatia will gain more and more importance within the next years as the country will fully participate in the next financial framework. It will be a great chance for Croatia to protect its biodiversity by using the EU funding opportunities.
