7.5.2012 – The official start of the training session entitled “The Future Funding of Projects That Protect Nature, Biodiversity and the Environment” began with a warm welcome by Janko Kos (the Mayor of the Žalec Municipality), Janez Jazbec (the Director of the Regional Developmental Agency of the Savinja region) and Danica Jezovšek Korent (Development Agency of Savinja, Project Partner and Organizer of the event). A presentation about the SURF Nature results and future expectations was presented by Peter Torkler (WWF Germany, Project Coordinator). Governmental representatives Andrej Bibič (Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment) and Josip Mihalic (Ministry of Economic development and Technology) presented past experience of funding Nature projects and future expectations of the new 2014 – 2020 programme.
Possible financial instruments and successful projects in the field of nature, biodiversity and environment were presented by Julijana Lebez Lozej (Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment, LIFE+) and Mateja Šepec Jeršič (Fund for NGOs in the framework of the EEA Financial Mechanism and Norwegian Financial Mechanism and Fund for NGOs and for small collaborative projects under the Swiss Contribution).
Gregor Domanjko (The Goričko Nature Park) presented the project “Landscape in harmony”, Dr. Lidija Globevnik (Institute for Water of the Republic of Slovenia) presented project BIOMURA and Petra Gregorc (Development agency of the Savinja region) presented “Eco-region in Slovenia” as good practices. Speakers explained the need for nature protection project ideas to be integrated into the future programme. We hope that our event fosters an even more active future with cooperation on nature projects amongst a variety of reliable partners.
At the end of the first day visitors went on a guided tour of the Eco-museum of Hop-Growing and Brewing Industry, financed by ERDF.

9.5.2012 – The next day we organized a field trip to the Škocjan Caves Park and the Sečovlje Salina Nature Park for project partners and guests so that participants got a chance to see the best project examples of ERDF funding in Slovenia. We organized boat travel so that the participants were able to see the natural and cultural beauty of the coastal towns.
10.5.2012 – Good weather allowed us to organize the 5th Partnership meeting outdoors within the Nature Park of the Vrbje Pond on the 10th of May 2012. Partners were introduced to previously complete financial and technical work on the project and future assignments were delegated.
The event, in general, improved the participant’s knowledge of Slovenia as a friendly and hospitable subalpine country. Our guests were also familiarized with traditional Slovene cuisine, local products and culture. Overall, the workshop was a success!
