SURF-Nature on the conference “Greening European Regions”

SURF-Nature has been presented on the conference “‘Greening European Regions - biodiversity as a boost for regional and local economy”. The conference was held in Oisterwijk, The Netherlands on 12.12.2012 and was organized by ECNC and UNEP, the Province of Limburg, (B), and the municipality of Oisterwijk, in cooperation with the Province of Noord-Brabant (NL), the EU Committee of the Regions and ENCORE.

The conference ‘Greening European Regions” was the first European conference of the European Learning Network on Regions and Biodiversity, which was initiated as a follow-up of the European conference “Regions as champions for biodiversity 2010”, 2007, Oisterwijk, which resulted in the “Brabant-Oisterwijk Appeal”.
The central theme of the conference was the role of regions and municipalities in greening economy, with emphasis on the value of biodiversity and ecosystem services in boosting the greening of the economy.  The conference was attended by 81 participants from 12 countries, the European Commission, UNEP,  the EU Committee of the Regions, ENCORE, various other interregional networks, national, regional and local representatives, expert organisations, NGOs, scientists, and (other) international organizations.
